Palate Introduces Souperb Sundays this August
This Winter Waikato chefs are banding together to warm local hearts and tums, serving up delicious soup while raising funds for Go Eco’s Food Rescue.
The Palate Soup Kitchen will be open every Sunday in August from 12-2pm. Each week different chefs will create a “souperb” dish guests can enjoy for just $25 a bowl.
With the help of our generous sponsors, SkyCity Hamilton along with supply partners, The Grumpy Baker and Fed Foods, every single cent of the price of a bowl of soup will go to Go Eco Food Rescue who help reduce food waste while feeding our community.
Palate’s Head Chef and part owner, Mat McLean says the goal is to raise $10,000 for this worthy cause. “Everyone is doing it tough this Winter, including the hospitality industry, but we can still give back and this is a way we can use our skills to do just that.”
Locals will enjoy soups created by award winning chefs including Andrew Clarke, Harry Williamson, Lisa Quarrie, Amanda-Jo Pickup, Logan Murray, Scott Bray, Andrew Pietersz & Joe Arthur.
A bowl of soup will be $25, though Mat points out “people can always pay more!” Those who can’t make it to the Sunday sessions can grab a takeaway soup to pop in their fridge or freezer for another time. And no soup will go to waste with any leftover soups given to local charity The Serve.

Go Eco Food Rescue
Founded in 2014 Go Eco Food Rescue turns an environmental issue into a solution to reduce food insecurity. Instead of letting perfectly edible food go to landfill, Go Eco rescue and redistribute it to feed people in our region, reducing both food waste and carbon emissions. When food is sent to landfill, it decomposes without oxygen, producing methane—a greenhouse gas far more potent than carbon dioxide—contributing to climate change.
Over the past 10 years, Go Eco Food Rescue have rescued 3 million kilos of food, partnering with charities and community centres to ensure it helps feed people across the region.
