Clos Marguerite is a small family-owned vineyard which is the fulfilment of a dream and the result of a long journey. The owners, Jean-Charles Van Hove and Marguerite Dubois have long been driven by their passion for wine and their desire to share this passion with others.
After they married in Belgium, Jean-Charles and Marguerite planned to create their own vineyard. To achieve their dream, they looked towards the New World. After careful investigation, they chose to emigrate to New Zealand eventually settling in Marlborough.
Over 20 years of experience in key viticulturist and winemaker roles, both in France and New Zealand have given Jean-Charles a unique understanding of the grape growing and wine making process.
As for Marguerite, with a grandfather who was a successful wine wholesaler in Brussels, she has been immersed in wine culture since early childhood. Today she is involved in every aspect of the business from tending the vines through to winemaking, sales and marketing. Marguerite loves to be in the vineyard and has an intimate knowledge of the vines and their fruit. She says she tastes as many grapes as the birds and gets really excited when she finds the fruit flavours in the finished wines – one of the important factors in their winemaking.
Clos Marguerite offers single-vineyard wines that are a harmonious blend of old-world experience and knowledge, combined with new-world innovation and vision.
Larissa says “I absolutely love Clos Marguerite wines! Margarite herself is an incredible lady, and her husband Jean-Charles, the winemaker, have adopted NZ as their home country and embraced the kiwi kindness as life style and have so much respect for the region where they have planted the vines which the love and commitment is shown all the way to the glass.
The pinot noir 2019 is and excellent drop. Matured for in a mix of new and old oak barrels for one year after the careful maceration process. The result is this elegantly balanced wines, full of character with savoury notes, dried cherries and baking spices.
An incredible match with the duck to share from the main menu at moment.”
